Can you play earlier version of Playstation games on the PS3?We bought our boys a PS3 and there isn't very many kid games out yet. Can you get PS2 games to work on a PS3 game?

for playstation 1 games yes it will work,
for playsation 2 games you need to have ps3 that is the 60gb and 80gb model to fully work.
the 80gb is not even full compatible too.only the 60gb will run perfect.
the 40gb and 20gb PS3 will not play ps2 games.
i just recently bought a ps2 just because i wanted to play my ps2 games LOL. because 60gb are too hard to find now and 80gb doesnt' really fully supported it.

yeah, with the ps1 games, all of them can play it.. About the ps2 games it depends on the model of your ps3, if you have 20,60 and 80gb ps3 then yes, if you have the 40gb ps3, then no it does not have backwards compatibility so it cant play ps2 games.. But all of them plays ps1 games though..

All models of PS3s will play PS1 games, but only the 20GB (discontinued), 60GB (discontinued), and 80GB models will play PS2 games.
If you bought the 40GB model (the cheapest currently available), it will not play PS2 games at all.
Additionally, the 80GB version is only compatible with about 80% of the PS2 library... which is a significant number of games, but you can and probably will run into a few that won't play right.

I can't believe people still think that just because it has a lower amount of memory, that means it can't play PS2 games!
the 20GB and 60GB were the first two PS3s ever released and the only two to have the most backwards compatibility!
the only "low" memory PS3 that doesn't play them is the 40GB.
the 80GB is in the middle. it plays PS2 games, but not as many as the 20GB and 60GB.
