Yep, you can, usb cables transfer information by electricity... so for example I charge my mp3 players with my computer usb ports. However some electronic devices don't send electricity from USB to the battery (like my calculator, that already has it's own AA batteries), but because your ps3 uses a USB to charge anyway you can plug that USB to any compatible usb port and it will most likely charge!!!
I charged my mp3 player on the USB ports they have on planes on the headrest in front of you.
