Face Detection by PS3

I was viewing photos on the PS3 using the Portrait slideshow mode when I noticed something rather interesting. I knew that in this slideshow mode, images zoom in and out slowly, using Ken Burns effect. But I did not know that the region of the photo that is zoomed into is determined using some sort of face detection algorithm. I decided to test myself whether any face detection was being done. Here are the results using some test images I downloaded from the Internet. Notice how in almost all the cases, the PS3 correctly recognizes the faces in the image and either: 1. Starts zoomed out and ends zooming into the face 2. Starts zoomed into a face, and then zooms out 3. Pans across the image covering all the faces.
