How do i reformat my old PS3 hard drive into FAT32 using the PC?My last PS3 died so i want to use the old hard drive(a 320GB drive i put in myself)as an external hard drive. I've put it into a usb powered case and the pc wont recognize it, but i finally figured out how to get the PC to recognize it and have the option to format it(but only in NTFS.) Having already installed FAT32 in my old drive i should know how to do it, but that was over 3 years ago. Any help?

Sorry to hear about the ps3 - i hope this helps to get use of your hard drive. the method below describes how to use the hard drive after a format( i been told that playstation software is so strict now that even if you remove your hard drive from one ps3 and put it into another, it doesnt work due to encryption- search around on yahoo on alternative ways of transferring your data)

Please note using this method will wipe any data on the drive- please be wary before going through this method. Please also ensure ALL data is backed up (just incase you accidentally remove partitions from your own computer hard drive which you dont want to do - always better to be safe rather than sorry!)

Presuming the hard drive is indeed a working one, give this a try.

1. ensure drive is in the external case and fully connected to the pc WITHOUT a usb hub. ( ie directly to the pc and laptop.)

2. presuming you have windows 7 ( other windows also work similarly) go to your my computer icon either in the start menu or on the desktop, right click and select 'manage'.

3. from here a windows console should appear, click on storage and disk management.

4. from here be cautious , selecting the wrong drive or option will wipe data so be sure you select the correct drive. on this screen if things are correct, you should be able to see a hard drive which has no partition or a unrecognised partition on the drive plugged in. as a clue it may show ' unlabelled hard drive, untitled drive etc.'

5. once your certain thats the drive, remove any partitions on the drive. ( DO NOT remove partitions on any other drive or you will wipe your data, if your uncertain, get someone with a little more experience to do this for you as i know how stressful it can be losing your own data) once removed - create a new partition , you can choose ntfs or fat32. once the partition is created- format the disc. once done, it should be useable in windows.

Hope this is helpful. if you are happy with the answer feel free to rate as best.

many thanks
