You'll first need an Internet connection. Now connect your modem to the PS3 via Ethernet cable through the modems LAN port. Have a telephone cable connected to your home telephone socket. Now you should have an active connection (provided that you have an Internet Service Provider). On the PS3, go to the settings menu and scroll down to Network Settings. Select the first option. Choose Automatic. Now select wired. Follow the on-screen instructions and you'll be fine.
