When you replace your ps3 hard drive do you have to load or install an operating system?I want to replace my hard drive to bigger capacity, im wondering if i need to install the PS3 Operating System??? Or basically what happens when i change the hard drive out??

no you wont have to do anything what it will ask you is to format the drive when you turn your ps3 on just do the fast format should not take that long then the PS3 os will be installed on its own and your ready to go i have already done it

Yeah, the OS does have to reinstall itself, after you format. If you make a backup of it, instead of re-downloading, it goes quicker.
But it is a better idea to add a usb external hard drive, than a new internal. You get to keep using the original drive without the hassle of constantly swapping it, and externals are fine for video, music, photos and demos - the vast majority of hard drive data. The only thing you might want a fast drive for is downloaded games, and there aren't 40gb total of downloadable games in the entire playstation store.
