Will there be a new ps3 upgrade version coming out like the psp lite or the xbox elite in 2008?I was thinking of buying one this month but if they bring out a new one in a few months I won't bother.

Sony isn't going to come out with a significantly different version of the PS3. Historically they haven't for consoles, it is only in the twilight years of a console do they come up with a significantly smaller version.
Future versions of the PS3 would probably just have subtle variations but nothing drastic such as a larger HDD or color. They already lost huge amounts of money fumbling around with their hardware, expect the versions out there to remain the same for at least a couple years.

There's no need to wait if you want to get a PS3. There most likely won't be another version of the PS3 coming out. Sony might make a slimmer version of the PS3 in 3 years or something, but other than that, Sony is most likely done with making different versions of the PS3.
I know one thing for sure, you'll want to have a PS3 by the time GTA 4, Haze, and Metal Gear Solid 4 are released.
