How do you know there is a new PS3 system update available?Does it just show that theres a new update and that u need to download it? Or do you need to go to system update and manually do it? BEST ANSWER WILL BE GIVEN, THANX

When you try to play a game on the network it will prompt you to download the latest update before your allowed.

When you first sign in usually it lets you know there is a new firmware update available to download.If it doesn't then just go to system update to check.The latest firmware is 3.56 right now.

Go to system update under settings click update via internet. If there is an update it'll show up then you can download it

If the PS3 is connected to the Internet, the PS3 will require an update before you can play any games (it will tell you a System Update is required). You can also go directly to System Update: XMB > Settings > System Update > Update via Internet
If the PS3 is not connected to the Internet, you will need to connect it to the Internet (which will give you the info stated above), or you can download the software from the website (North America Firmware Update - http://us.playstation.com/support/systemupdates/ps3/pc_update/index.htm ) and install it from an external device: XMB > Settings > System Update > Update via Media Storage
