Is it worth getting a PS3 with dual booted linux instead of a computer? Is it worth getting a PS3 with dual booted linux instead of a computer? I know the PS3 has some beasty hardware and is about the same price as an average gaming computer. Just wondering how stable the ps3 linux boot is and how much future support people see?

Linux on the PS3 isn't so great because Sony have crippled what it is allowed to do. For example it cannot use any of the 3D hardware in the PS3. Meaning no games or desktop effects.
Again, you cannot use Linux on the PS3 for any kind of games. No 3D is available and unless someone works out a hack to get around the hypervisor, there never will be.

A ps3 is not a very ideal replacement for a computer. It's hardware is specialized for calculating the simulations run by game engines and displaying the pretty graphics -- not for running operating systems.
Linux runs on the PS3, but not very well. Have you tried watching a Youtube video on Linux on the PS3? It LAGS, even when it's not on fullscreen.

It really depends on why you want Linux on it. Are you trying to learn Linux? Are you a geek that just likes to play with that sort of thing? Are you looking for a game system and a computer, or do you have a gaming system and looking for an additional one?
If you are the type that likes to play with that sort of thing, then a PS3 with Linux would be a great toy.
But in just about every other instance, I think you'd be better with a gaming computer instead.
