How can you play ps2 games on the ps3 slim?i am going to get either a ps3, or an x-box 360. It is to my understanding that the new slim 120 GB ps3 can't play ps2 games. Is there something i can download so it does play ps2 games? or do i just have to get the old 80 GB ps3?

You can't, Sony removed the feature as there are loads of PS3 games out there, if you really need to play PS2 games then get yourself a PS3 60GB

There is only one ps3 that plays ps2 games and thats the 60gb, but since they stopped making that and its very likely to get yellow light of death, i dont think your gonna be playing your ps2 games on the ps3. But ps2's are very very cheap now so if your desperate then just buy a ps2 for like £40 - £50.

PS3 slims can not play PS2 games, period. There is nothing you can do to play PS2 games on a PS3 that is not backward compatible (20GB PS3, 60GB PS3, Limited Edition 80GB MotorStorm and MGS4 Bundle PS3s).
North America has three backward compatible (NTSC - those listed above) models, the rest of the World has one backward comptible (PAL) model which is the 60GB.

let me start by addressing that guy who said "the yellow light of death." it is a myth that fanboys of xbox made up. The PS3 has a .2% fail rate. yes, 2 tenths of a percent. 1 in 3 xbox's break.
PS2 fats are about 20 bucks if you really want to play ps2 games, but please do not make the mistake in buying a 360. I bought the 360 elite the week it came out. I was pretty happy with it. It was much better than my xbox original, and even my ps2. About a year later, I bought the PS3. I am still blown away at how much better it is.

-free online (6 bucks a month on xbox)
-blu ray player (they can cost $ 200). The games are built on blu ray discs, so better graphics at same price
-web browser (youtube, yahoo, email, the works)
-less load times (discs are synced with memory when you put the game in the ps3. its sweet
-built in wifi (i payed $ 100 for my 360 exclusive adapter -.-)
-compatible with everything (no more 360 exclusive hardware. my Rosetta stone mic works with my ps3 fine)
-RFOM
-online servers are better. we hold more and I have never lagged out. MAG holds 264 players all at once. halo holds 16 and lags....
exclusives like Little Big Planet, Killzone 1-3, metal gear series, final fantasy, MAG, God of War, uncharted, infamous, resistance, ratchet and clank, socom, and all these other great games.
the new sony move is about to come out, and it is much better than project natal. natal is an eye camera, nothing more. sony move is like a wii on steroids. I cant wait for it to come out.
its clear what the better choice is. I went from being a 360 fanboy, to worshiping sony ;).
